Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know whether it's right for me?

Counselling, or therapy, provides a regular opportunity to talk to someone confidentially who is not a friend or family member. This time can be used as you wish, to talk about problems, explore your  feelings, and develop strategies for coping with difficulties.

It is an opportunity to work on issues in your life, so that you can find more satisfying and rewarding ways of living. Research shows that therapy can be helpful for many people and that most clients leave therapy feeling significantly better than when they started.

However, only you can decide whether therapy is right for you.

How does it work?

Your first session is an intake session, where we will discuss what you would like to get out of therapy. For example, you may want to:

  • Talk through an issue in order to make sense of what has happened and to put things into perspective.

  • Find a way of dealing with difficult feelings or emotions.

  • Deal with problems in your relationships

  • Change some kind of troubling behaviour.

  • Negotiate a life transition or developmental crisis.

After this intake session, we will meet regularly, usually once a week. Sessions last for 50 minutes.

How much does it cost?

Introductory 30 min intake session: £35

Regular 50 minute session: £55

You can pay by cash, bank transfer or cheque, whichever is easiest for you

How long does it take?

This depends on what you want to work on. Some issues may need only a few sessions; more complex concerns can take much longer.

Is it professionally regulated?

There are currently no laws in the UK regulating counselling and psychotherapy. However, I am on the accredited register of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
